Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians

The first modern day movie with an all Asian cast and an Asian-American lead in twenty-five plus years? Yep, sign me up. Took you long enough Hollywood. This one is helmed by director Jon Chu who also directed the Justin Bieber documentary Never Say Never. What a gem. I have to say he truly delivers with this rom com. Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) and Nick Young (Henry Golding) are a young couple in love on the way to Singapore to meet Nick’s family. His family happens to be one of the wealthiest families in Singapore which obviously throws Rachel for a loop. Chu and Golding are perfectly cast. Chu has the perfect balance of humor and seriousness and Golding is suave and handsome and walks the delicate tightrope between choosing for himself and choosing what his family would like. The real scene stealer is Awkwafina who plays Rachel’s friend from college Peik Lin Goh. She is freaking funny as hell. The rest is a pretty typical rom com, but the cultural significance of this movie means you definitely need to see it.

Film or Movie: Movie

You’ll like this movie if:
1. You want to support diversity in Hollywood
2. You like romantic comedies
3. You want to be introduced to the legend that is Awkwafina
