Tully
Do you want to watch a movie about all of the reasons you should never have children? Then see Tully. It was written by Diablo Cody who is also responsible for Juno and Young Adult and is directed by Jason Reitman. Cody and Reitman are frequent collaborators and usually create some pretty rad stuff. It stars Charlize Theron as Marlo, a mom of three. She is drowning under the weight of caring for a new baby while maintaining a home life for her and her husband (Ron Livingston). They hire a night nurse, Tully (Mackenzie Davis), who comes in and magically fixes everything. This is not a feel good movie about how great it is to start a family or how rewarding motherhood is. Basically this spares you no details about how truly awful it can be when you have children, especially when the children are difficult. Great performances from Theron and Davis help to keep the despair at bay while you snicker at their banter and antics. It’s an excellent look at modern day motherhood and the new problems that are presented once you embark on this period of life.
