A Quiet Place
I have a real love for John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. They are one of my favorite Hollywood couples so I was jazzed when they were going to be in a movie together. I saw this with some reservations though because it was written and directed by John and I didn’t know how that was going to play out. The answer is really well in case you were wondering. I don’t normally do scary movies but this one was within my parameters. It follows a family consisting of parents Lee (John Krasinski) and Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and their three children, Regan (Millicent Simmonds), Marcus (Noah Jupe), and Beau (Cade Woodward). They are living during a time where monsters roam the Earth and most people have been killed. The catch is that the monsters won’t attack you if they can’t hear you. So most of the movie is silent. I saw this in theaters and it was a really weird experience. I bought popcorn but ended up not eating it because each time I rustled the bag it was like the loudest sound on earth. It was a neat experience to have so many members of an audience be completely silent so it wouldn’t ruin the intensity of the movie. It was really well acted, particularly by Krasinski and Blunt. There was a childbirth scene that was insane to watch as Blunt had to remain silent to keep safe from the monsters. The pacing was well done and Krasinski did a nice job to make sure the intensity kept building throughout the whole movie. Hats off John, you’ve come a long way from Jim’s cubicle.
