RBG
This documentary tells the life story of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It covers her time as a young adult when she was in law school all the way up to present day. The film is a typical documentary style. The directors Julie Cohen and Betsy West don’t take many risks stylistically speaking. But America has a fascination with RBG so the documentary was extremely popular commercially. The documentary does a good job of showcasing the types of cases that Ginsburg took on while she was fighting against gender discrimination. They even got interviews with most of the people who were involved in the cases (other lawyers, defendants, etc). I found the legal aspect of the documentary to be very interesting. It was also really inspiring to see how she took case after case to highlight gender discrimination and won. They cover a little bit of her personal life as well, including her marriage to Marty, her children, her grandchildren, and her friendships. They even highlight her odd friendship with fellow Supreme Court Justice and uber conservative Antonin Scalia. They sort’ve skirted around any controversy and kept things positive and light. Her remarks about President Trump were very briefly covered and you could tell the filmmakers wanted to present RBG in the best light possible. I am an RBG fan so I loved the film. I thought it was informative and entertaining and I loved getting to see RBG kick butt.
