The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie Review
You thought the Everything is Awesome song went away? Think again! Because it’s most definitely in the second Lego movie. For the sequel they’ve also added another ear worm called Catchy Song by Dillon Francis, T-Pain, and That Girl Lay Lay. You’ll know it when you hear it. Trust me. The second Lego movie picks up a few years after the first one ends. The kids are older and their parents, played by Will Ferrell and Maya Rudolph, are trying to get them to play nice. Meanwhile Emmet (Chris Pratt) and Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) have been thrown into a world of chaos where Duplo toys constantly invade and wreak havoc on the Legos. So everything is not awesome. A group of Legos are taken to another realm and Emmet has to go on a mission to rescue them. To be honest, it took me a while to get into this one. I didn’t really start to become invested until about halfway through. The last half of the movie was really enjoyable. The action picked up and I felt like the story was more interesting and engaging. There were some plot devices, like a foray into time travel, that didn’t make a whole lot of sense. They even address that it’s convoluted and tell you to just go with it so I mean there you have it. Just like the previous movie there are a lot of funny references that only adults would catch. They poke fun at superheroes a lot (Green Lantern I’m looking at you). Will Arnett reprises his role as Batman and is superb as usual adding in tons of Batman references. The addition of Tiffany Haddish as Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi was a welcome one. She even sings several songs which was a change of pace. But overall this sequel was not as good as the original. It was still very clever and I enjoyed watching it. A fun one for sure but the original movie still holds the top spot in my heart.
