How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Movie Review
This is apparently the last movie for the How to Train Your Dragon universe. The third and final installment for Hiccup and Toothless was a fitting end to the dragon saga. Hiccup, who is now the chief of Berk, is still leading the crusade to have humans and dragons live harmoniously together. It is working well as Berk is now home to so many dragons they are running out of room.
The villain in this one is Grimmel, a dragon slayer who has a particular obsession with killing Night Fury’s. He hears about the existence of Toothless and becomes determined to find him and kill him. Grimmel is your typical evil antagonist with no redeeming qualities. The newest addition to the story is a white Night Fury that is dubbed a “Light Fury.” Of course Toothless falls in love with her and as they court each other you get to see some hilarious scenes of young dragon love. I’m dead serious. Dragons falling in love makes up a large majority of this movie. Toothless is semi clueless when it comes to lady dragons and I enjoyed watching some of the debacles he goes through before he figures it out.
There’s a lot of back and forth between Grimmel and Hiccup with several run ins and confrontations. Grimmel is determined to kill Toothless and Hiccup is determined to keep him safe. The usual cast of characters is still around with Astrid, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, and Valka making appearances. The best part of this one for me was getting to see characters I love back in action followed by Toothless and the Light Fury’s romance. It was such a fitting end to the story and I was happy with how it concluded. If you loved the first two installments then you should definitely see this. Hiccup and Toothless get the ending they both deserve, even if it’s not the one you would’ve expected.
